Danish farmers will probably start growing genetically modified crops next year, the chairman of the Agricultural Council of Denmark said on Tuesday.
The statement came after Danish researchers said that genetically modified crops can safely be grown next to traditional and organic varieties.
Earlier this month, Danish Agriculture Minister Mariann Fischer Boel told an international conference on the co-existence of crops, that her government is planning new laws on how farmers can avoid cross-contamination be-tween the so-called GMOs and other crops.
Due to be presented early next year, the law will regulate how far GMOs have to be from regular crops and the cleaning of machinery, making GMO farmers responsible for complying with the rules.
